A Strike against Patent Trolls

Posted on Tuesday, January 29th, 2013 at 9:03 am by Ken

If your website includes an online "shopping cart," this news should be pleasing. Quote from article:

For Newegg's Chief Legal Officer Lee Cheng, it's a huge validation of the strategy the company decided to pursue back in 2007: not to settle with patent trolls. Ever.

This news is huge and it's great. Patent trolls should cease to exist. IMHO, there should be legislation to require patent holders to market products incorporating the patents within some number of years. Otherwise, their idea should revert to the public domain. An argument could be made for allowing those who originally created the patent to have the ability to retain ownership, but this practice of companies making their money solely by suing for infringements on their portfolio is another drain on innovation and, therefore, economic growth.
